Intent

ISTHB Regulation Section 87 and Section 88 and Section 89 state the eligibility rules for the AAHB program.

ISTHB Regulation Section 73 states the types of health benefits covered and the governing lists and agreements

Health Benefits: Qualifying Income Levels Ministerial Order sets out the maximum qualifying income levels for determining financial eligibility for health benefits at application or annual renewal.

INTENT

The AAHB is intended as a support to Albertans in low income to ensure they have access to prescription drugs, dental services, optical services, emergency ambulance and diabetic supplies that are essential to health and well-being.

The Alberta Adult Health Benefit (AAHB) program is provided as an extension of health benefits offered through the Community and Social Services Income Support (IS) and Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) programs, to assist eligible persons leaving the programs to maintain employment. The AAHB is also available to women during pregnancy and to households with high ongoing prescription drug needs, if their household incomes are within the AAHB qualifying income levels.

As of April 1, 2014 the program is administered by Alberta Health; however, enrollment in the program continues to be through Community and Social Services.
