05 Limited/Ineligible Groups

INTENT

This section outlines the circumstances under which a person may be completely ineligible or partially eligible for Income Support (IS) benefits.

POLICY

Some persons (applicant, recipient or members of the household unit) are ineligible or have limited eligibility for IS benefits because another person, program, service or jurisdiction is required, expected or able to provide for their basic needs (refer to Income Support Overview - Eligibility Impacts regarding eligibility impacts for a two-adult household).

Limited eligibility occurs when:

  • Another program/service is expected to provide assistance
  • Another person is expected to provide assistance
  • IS benefits are limited by the Income Support, Training and Health Benefits Regulation or policy
  • The applicants or recipients who are expected to work have placed themselves in a position of not being able to support themselves through employment
